The Sart Canal bridge in Houdeng Aimeries (BE) / Fully measurable and replacable post-tensioning cables

The exceptional dimensions of the Sart Canal Bridge are necessary for modernization of the Centre canal. Freyssinet is supplying and installing prestressing for the new bridge. The entire prestressing is applied using unbonded strands threaded into a HDPE duct filled with cement grout before tensioning. A longitudinal and transverse prestressing cable system makes the bridge perfectly watertight. This prestressing provides an excellent protection against corrosion, and can be adjusted and replaced strand by strand. |

As part of the construction program for the Paris-Brussels high speed line, the 2002 metre long Arbre Viaduct is the longest rail bridge in Europe.
The proposed prestressing system is the result of the Freyssinet past experience: this is an entire adjustable and replaceable prestressing with a high protection against corrosion. |

| 25th January, 1990 : the Léglise relay station collapses, due to the buffeting inflicted by a record storm, with peaks of wind of up to 150 km/h. After the installation of temporary transmitters, RTBF, broadcasting company, decided to erect a new 185 m high, self-supporting pylon, which could not be constructed using traditional methods : the assembly of the varions elements constituing such a steel structure would mean the use of large and costly cranes, difficult to bring in over the rough terrain of Vlessart-Léglise. L'autoroute E42 (Verviers-Prüm), qui vise à assurer le développement industriel et touristique des régions belges et allemandes des Fagnes et de l'Eifel, traverse la vallée de l'Eau Rouge qu'elle surplombe à une hauteur de 45 mètres.
